[You can read my first review here.] A sudden urge to visit the beach spurred me on to venture back to Melody's beautiful Sweet & Saucy Shop in the Crystal Cove Promenade...well that and all of the too-tempting pictures on her Instagram. Darn food porn! I couldn't resist when she started showing off all of the pumpkin creations.

So of course, we walked in and bought everything pumpkin. Well, actually, the first thing we got was the chocolate peanut butter cupcake for Duc since he is a peanut butter fiend. THEN we got all the other goodies. The first we started eating was the pumpkin mousse shotglass with what looked like pumpkin seed brittle on top. It was light and cinnamony with a sweet moist cakeyness in the middle. Then we got to his mini-cupcake which was very moist and rich in chocolatey-ness. Surprisingly, the peanut butter frosting was not heavy as I have always had elsewhere. It was light enough to not feel guilty about eating it but also strong enough to sate his peanut butter craving.

Next up were the pumpkin spice macaron and mini pumpkin cheesecake. The macaron was actually a bit too sweet for us but then again, I think we just learned our lesson that overall, macarons are not our thing (haven't liked others we've had either). The pumpkin cheesecake was my favorite of the pumpkin desserts as the crust was what looked like an extraordinary pumpkin graham crust. The cheesecake filling was minimal but enough to combat the crust decadence.

Then we had the mini pumpkin cupcake which was, like all their cakes, moist and very spice-driven. I liked it with its salted caramel sauce but found it generally normal. My second favorite dessert of the day was the blood orange pannacotta with its candied and sugared peel on top. Wow. I love blood oranges and pannacotta separately but they sure make a star-studded team. The texture was spot-on and the flavor very unique. Melody, you are a genius!
