Recipe - Guinness Float

My thanks to the geniuses who posted this up on Bon Appetit because it was ridiculously delicious. I had to adjust the recipe a bit because I didn't have all of the ingredients on hand to make my own cocoa syrup or whipped cream. However, that didn't make this St. Patrick's Day tribute dessert less tasty (though it can be enjoyed at any time). I will surely have this again and again as long as my fat stomach permits it. By the way, if you know what these pint glasses are in reference to, you are awesome and totally deserve a float.

Step 1: Ingredients (yields 3 servings)
  • chocolate syrup
  • heavy whipped cream
  • 2 bottles of Guinness stout, 12 oz each
  • 18 oz. chocolate ice cream
  • 50 ml Kahlua (or 1 tbsp each serving)

Step 2: Creating the base
Hopefully you'll have your own pint glasses but you can use other sizes as long as it can take 16 oz. Layer the bottom with a bit of chocolate syrup to base your drink on. Divide up the 50 ml of Kahlua into the three glasses. Scoop out about 6 oz.-8 oz. of chocolate ice cream per glass, depending on how much each person wants.

Step 3: Adding the Guinness
Pour the Guinness down the sides of the glasses to avoid getting more head (foam) than necessary. It should turn the glass into beautiful swirled creamy-looking goodness.

Step 4: Finishing
Finish off your delectable dessert drink with whipped cream on top and chocolate syrup. To make it look even nicer, why not add a tall spoon and straw? It looks nicer than plain anyhow, no? Look back at the header picture if you want to be reminded.

My sincerest thanks to Duc for taking the pictures while I whipped up our desserts!
