In a desire to feel like I was making some progress on the whole money thing (only recently employed and been working to pay off bills accrued during unemployment), I told Duc that he had no choice one night and would have to allow me to take the both of us out to dinner. Of course, I was still mindful of my finances so like any classy girlfriend, I took him to have the most extravagant dinner he'd have (...that week). Don't judge! I actually like Curry House because it sates that Japanese curry craving I get sometimes. I also love their housemade dressing and always make sure to snag a bottle any time I'm there.

So after we ordered our entrees, he got his side of miso soup. The days have been getting quite cold so soup was a good choice. Curry House makes pretty good soup actually. I like how abundant the seaweed is. It wasn't any typical miso soup that places do, bare save for a handful of tiny soft tofu chunks. This was legit.

I defaulted to their pork katsu dish since I missed katsu. A large portion came out with some salad on the side and small servings of both kidney beans and corn. Their katsu is fried to a great crisp but does not mess up the succulence of the pork. I still felt its juices with each bite. As for the curry, I went with medium heat but there wasn't even the semblance of any spiciness to the sauce. Afterward, I realized that they have 5 different levels there and the medium was just one level above the base sauce. I'll keep that in mind for next time! 'Twas a great entree that hit the spot aptly.

Duc got the keema curry rice which was ground beef in curry with a hard boiled egg, Shimeji mushrooms, carrots, potatoes, garlic, and red chili peppers. It tasted like a savory stew to be honest. It was pretty good but I concentrated mainly on my own crispy katsu since I was in need of some crunch to my meal. Ah, Curry House - always a solid choice!

I came here for a somewhat late small dinner. I liked the atmosphere of the place, and the inside was not predictable from the exterior of the building. It's in a plaza with a whole bunch of other restaurants and stores so it made sense that everything would be somewhat externally homogeneous. Inside, the ambiance and atmosphere was pretty nice. We were seated promptly, and due to it being my first time there, I did what I do whenever I go to Thai restaurants.

My drink of choice was their Thai iced tea. For $2.50 for a glass, I was hoping that I wouldn't get something that was powder and water. I didn't. It was a nice refreshing glass of a fairly good amount with the cream sitting on top of the tea itself instead of being mixed in prior to my having received it. They made a good drink.

As for the entree, what else is there to try at a Thai place that you're first seeing than their Pad Thai? I went with chicken because I'm just used to have chicken Pad Thai and because I don't want to skew my comparisons from other places by choosing different meats. The portion was an alright size; I think that for $8.50, it could have been a tad larger. The noodles were great in texture though, and the sauce wasn't overwhelming. I could tell that they didn't use pre-made sauce. An addition to this plate that I hadn't seen in other Pad Thai dishes was shredded red cabbage. To be honest, not a big fan. I think that overall it was a solid plate of the traditional noodle dish but could have done with more peanuts and "umph" to be super impressive.

Looking for some stellar sampling service? My friend wanted to check this place out so we went (also to spend a Groupon), and when we walked in through the door, the woman at the sorbet display greeted us warmly and asked if it was our first time there. After that, she proceeded to load us up with various samples of their sorbets mixed with ice cream to give us ideas about what we'd get when dessert time came around. We actually went there originally to get lunch in the form of sandwich crepes but the ice cream was oh-so-good!

We put in our orders for our sandwich crepes first, filling out slips of paper with whatever we wanted in ours. It was great to customize the order after choosing the meat, and the prices were quite reasonable at about $4 for a small that really wasn't all that small. I got a pastrami crepe with green bell peppers, red onion, tomato, salt & pepper, honey mustard, and provolone. All the vegetables were quite fresh and in good portions. There was a good amount of pastrami in my crepe, and the shell was made well and crispy. My only complaint was that the cheese was not as hot and melty as I had expected but to be fair, she was making three sandwich crepes at once with different orders on each. I liked mine and would go again for one, especially considering the price!

Then it was time for dessert. The decision was hard but I eventually settled on a sorbet cream (sorbet w/ice cream) of peach and raspberry in a small. The smalls are quite generous, and I couldn't feel my tongue before I finished mine! I liked the mixture of the two together because the peach was nice and light in comparison to the raspberry's tartness. The ice cream they have is amazing. It's so rich and creamy but not thick at the same time. I'm keeping this place in mind for whenever I'm in the area (or even when I'm not, haha). I'm glad we got there pretty close to when they opened because when we came back to the car after exploring the Cypress Swap Meet, the place was jam-packed with people!
